Diaper Showdown!

A lot of moms have started trying to whittle down the amount of chemicals in their lives, especially when it comes to products that touch our baby's skin. In an effort to do this, I took a look at two brands of diapers : The Honest Company and Seventh Generation, comparing absorbancy and cost.

First of all, I was really excited to try the Honest diapers. I use the body wash +  shampoo for both of my kiddos (and me!) and the lotion on my exzema-prone daughter. I love the way they smell and I'm a fan of Jessica Alba's book, "The Honest Life". Not to mention, these diapers are pretty adorable.

So cute!

Unfortunately, they're kind of pricey. An honest diaper is roughly 47 cents a piece, while a Seventh Generation diaper costs almost half that at about 24 cents a piece. Now this is kind of a priorities thing because some people might find it worth it to pay double for an attractive diapers, which Seventh Generation is not.

Honest on the left, Seventh Generation on the right.
I don't really care about pretty diapers, I want them to work but neither of these diapers really did the trick for me. Both of them left wetness on my son, so they did little to wick away the moisture, and since my son HATES to be wet, this led to instant crying upon peeing. Also, both diapers tended to turn kinda solid when they were wet instead of squishy so it was hard to feel if it was wet by the outside. They also don't have the color-strip which I prefer. So, I really wouldn't switch to either brand of diapers.

Also, while being a green diaper, Honest still relies on some petrochemicals in their diapers. Seventh Generation uses some oil based chemicals and dyes their diapers brown so they appear natural.

On the other hand, the Seventh Generation baby wipes were awesome. They were thick, absorbent, and had a really light scent. The Honest Company wipes were funky to me. While I thought the texture was great, they smelled like I should have been using them to clean furniture. Not particularly pleasant.

How abut you guys? What do you think of these brands? Which other brands do you use?

P.S. If you want to use the Honest trial to see how the diapers are, be aware that you will be automatically enrolled in the bundle plan for $80 or so a month.
